4. Atlas maps • Atlases not only contain maps showing where places are but also show physical patterns such as height of the land and human patterns such as population density. • On atlas maps you must be able to recognise and describe distributions and patterns of both human and physical features • You will need to relate patterns of human geography to patterns of physical geography

7. Measuring distances?? Straight line distances • Use a ruler or the edge of a piece of paper • Mark the location on the paper or take the measurement • Measure this distance against the scale line on the map Curved Line distances • The curve should be split into straight sections • Straight sections can then be measured • OR measure the distance with a piece of string, length is then measured against the scale
