  1. Mapping the “worlds” II – an interactive exercise on stakeholders and institutions on the coast.

  2. Basic steps in mapping exercises: To understand the coast system we need to separate « bits » of the coast into different types of categories (« worlds »). Then we need to see what makes up a certain world. Then we need to look at the groupings or interlinkages in the world. Then we need to reassemble worlds; this should give us a systems structure for the Cork coast.

  3. PHYSICAL: ….. ISSUE: …….. USERS: ……. ORGANISATIONAL: ……… Cork harbour cuckoo clock has not only different types of bits but also needs variety in the bits to work in its world.

  4. Cork Harbour is a complicated place with lots of different people doing lots of different things. • Who are these people and how are they linked to the physical and issue bits? • Can people be grouped? • Which are linked to issue? • What rules apply? • How are rules applied?

  5. Two stages of this mapping exercises: For the « users » and « organisational »: List them on post-its. Group and/or link them using your own categories or linking parameters. Find the « best » conceptual model.
