  1. Philippians 4 ”The Pilgrim’s Way”

  2. Philippians 3:20 • “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to Himself.”

  3. Disagreements will come, however grounded in the gospel we may be. • God always provides a peace-maker.

  4. James 3:14- 18 • “But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

  5. Jen Wilkin • “The heart cannot love what the mind does not know”.

  6. Matthew Henry • “It is our duty and privilege to rejoice in God, and to rejoice in him always; at all times, in all conditions; even when we suffer for him, or are afflicted by him. We must not think the worse of him or of his ways for the hardships we meet with in his service. There is enough in God to furnish us with matter of joy in the worst circumstance on earth.”

  7. “Reasonableness” • “gracious forbearance and/or “gentleness”.

  8. 2 Peter 3:9 • “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

  9. Matthew 11:29-30 • “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

  10. 1 Peter 4:7 • “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”

  11. James 5:8 • “You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.”

  12. “Anxious” • “experiencing worry, unease, or nervousness, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.”

  13. Philippians 2:28 • “I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious.”

  14. John Piper • “Anxiety seems to be an intense desire for something, accompanied by a fear of the consequences of not receiving it. We do not say we are anxious when we desire a tool box for Christmas because we don't fear the consequences of not getting one. But we do say we are anxious about our wife not arriving home on time because our desire for her to come home is accompanied by the fear of a car accident and a telephone call from the police.”

  15. Romans 8:28 • “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

  16. Isaiah 26:3 • “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

  17. Hebrews 12:2 • “…who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God”.

  18. Hebrews 12:1-2 • “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…”

  19. Concentrated thought leading to a convinced heart resulting in faithful obedience.

  20. “Content” • “The state of being contented with your situation in life” • “Satisfied or showing satisfaction with things as they are”.

  21. 1 Timothy 6:6-10 • “Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, andwe cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”

  22. Ephesians 6:10-12 • “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places”

  23. Ephesians 3:16 • “that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being…”

  24. Proverbs 24:16 • “For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”

  25. Psalm 90:14 • “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”

  26. “Supply” • Provide fully

  27. The freedom to be fearless, content, and to rejoice in all things comes from God’s supply, not ours.

  28. James 1:17, Hebrews 13:8 • “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness nor shadow of turning.” • “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

  29. Bottom Line: The Pilgrim’s way is to walk securely through disagreements, worry, poverty and plenty, fully hoping in a loving Savior and in an unchanging God.
