EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage A1: nomination Focal Persons • timing: months 1-6 • approach: • in each European country the ECP/GR national coordinator has been asked to propose a National PGR Inventory Focal Person in liaison with the national Clearing House Mechanism focal point • the focus was on the EU and associated states, but also other European countries have been invited to join the initiative (on a self-funding basis) • status • completed: 41 countries are represented by 37 Focal Persons

EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage A2: regional meetings • timing: months 7-8 & 19-20 • approach: • twice a meeting in each of the four regions, attended by the Focal Persons, the organiser, and one other Project Participant • during these meetings the current situation is assessed, and technical and organisational aspects of National PGR Inventories are discussed • status • second round of meetings completed • National Reports and Meeting Reports compiled • progress in countries measured (questionnaires - 100% response)

EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage A3: staff visits & individ. support • timing: months 11-24 • approach: • a number of staff exchanges between staff involved with the preparation of National PGR Inventories and ZADI, NGB and CGN (each hosts three visitors; each visit lasts 1 to 4 weeks) • financial support to the compilation of National PGR Inventories to lift such Inventories to a level where they could be maintained on a permanent basis by the respective Focal Point • status • several staff visits done • training workshops are being / have been organised

EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage B1: definition data & standards • timing: months 1-2 • approach: • descriptions of the type of data to download from the National PGR inventories (what material, what type of information) • descriptions of the data to download from the National PGR inventories (descriptor lists, standards for file format, etc.) • descriptions of the functionality of EURISCO (what should it do in respect to downloading, format checking, feedback to data supplier, loading and replacing data, etc.) • status • completed

Data integrity test modules) • design, bulding and testing the web-site • implementation (incl. training staff, maintenance mechanisms) • status • prototype is ready

EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage B3: compilation and loading initial data sets • timing: months 19-32 • approach: • compilation of all existing National Inventories in one large database • compilation of ECCDBs in one large database • clearance from the Focal Points per data set corresponding to one holding country (for those without National Inventory) • loading initial data sets in EURISCO • status • conversion of ECCDBs has finished: 507000 accessions loaded

EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage B4: promotion of database • timing: months 33-36 • approach: • inform the user community, including the genebank community, plant breeders, and the scientific community, about EURISCO by articles in journals (IPGRI Newsletter for Europe), posting on relevant newsgroups and discussion platforms, etc. • status • planning has started • EURISCO logo developed

EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage C1: general coordination • timing: months 1-36 • approach: • all activities are tuned, information is exchanged, reporting procedures towards the funding agency are followed (incl. annual scientific and financial reports) • status • on-going • second annual report submitted • EPGRIS web-site established (www.ecpgr.cgiar.org/epgris)

EPGRIS - details workpackages • workpackage C2: coordination meetings • timing: months 1 - 36 • approach: • start-up coordination meeting organised by IPGRI (setting standards, descriptors, content of the regional meetings, etc.) • half-way coordination meeting organised by INIA (update of the situation, exchange experiences of the first regional meetings, etc.) • final coordination meeting is combined with the Final Meeting organised by RICP (evaluate the project , develop strategies for the continuation of EURISCO after the project) • status • start-up and half-way meeting have been held • reports have appeared
