  1. 2016Secondary & TertiaryScholarship Students

  2. Overview • The African Bush Camp Foundation currently supports 29orphans* and vulnerable children with High School Scholarships. Since the inception of our scholarship program in 2008, our graduating Primary School Scholarship students from Hwange Main Camp and Mambanje Primary Schools compete for four full scholarships to the best boarding school they can gain entrance to in Zimbabwe. • Because of the challenges the families caring for the orphan’s and vulnerable students face, many of these students would have completely dropped out of school by now without this assistance. The students attend the best school that they can gain entrance to and embark on stringent scholarship conditions to stay in the program. We also aim to provide them with guidance and support in all areas of their lives, positively influencing their physical and mental wellbeing and therefore performance at school. • Since 2013 we have seen the students in the higher grades participating in the organization of our community events; by “paying it forward”. They are learning to be role models and leaders in their own communities. The older students take on a mentorship role over the younger scholarship students. We had several students volunteer over their holidays which was a great success; two students offered their services teaching at Mambanje Primary School while one other student taught at Main Camp Primary School. The children at the primary schools were greatly inspired by seeing young people they have grown up with back in their communities working with them. • Once again this year, all of the orphaned and vulnerable students from Main Camp Primary School, which recorded a 100% pass rate in their grade 7 final exams, had their sponsors continue their support into high school, meaning that there has been a 0% drop out rate for the 2012, 13, 14 and 15 grade seven classes. The building of these relationships has been very rewarding for both the students, their families and the sponsors alike. *An orphan is defined by UNAIDS as a child under the age of 18 who has lost one or both parents through death or desertion, or whose parents are unable or unwilling to provide care.”
