  1. Confluence Park Denver, Colorado The city of Denver has created a whitewater course as part of a scenic river park on the South Platte River. By Robert B. This power point is a cut down version of a longer presentation that featured the whitewater park. Revised: 5/02

  2. Confluence Park: • South Platte River in Denver • Multiple use parks for the people • Whitewater course, walking, biking.

  3. Cherry Creek: • At confluence just below Confluence whitewater course • Shows compatibility of parks, trails and floodwalls.

  4. Recreation Equipment, Inc. (REI) Restoration: • Historic power plant • Restoration for commercial use • Complements river uses • Whitewater course is behind flowers.

  6. Overflow Dam: • Whitewater course is on left (out-of-sight) • Dam is approximately 6 feet high • Constructed to prevent dangerous hydraulic • Also, buoys upstream.

  7. Upstream Safety Buoys: • Uniform Waterway System buoy • Orange Diamond • Boats Prohibited inscribed on buoy.

  8. Maintains Floodplain with… • A park-like atmosphere • Flowers • Steps into the water • Multiple recreational uses • A pleasant place to walk and visit.

  10. Shows the detailed construction of the rapids with a “V” shape • Not much water required • Approximately 100 cfs flow at time of visit • Note, Average summer flow in Cumberland is 475 cfs

  11. The End A whitewater course such as the one proposed can serve as one of the center pieces in the revitalization of the waterfront in Cumberland.
