Over 3,145 people died from polio 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis an acute infectious disease, esp. of children, caused by a viral inflammation of the gray matter of the spinal cord: it is accompanied by paralysis of various muscle groups that sometimes atrophy, often with resulting permanent deformities What is polio?

  4. Salk inspired people to never give up on anything, even if it seems impossible, it can save the world. Inspiring

  5. Salk cared so much about the health of America, he was determined to find the cure for Polio Caring

  6. Salk dedicated so much of is time to find this vaccine. He would not give up until he got it right Dedicated

  8. After the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, Coach Karl announced that he was diagnosed with terrible neck and throat cancer. Cancer

  9. Colby Karl is Georges son. In his Junior year at Boise State he was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer but overcame it very quickly so he could enter the NBA draft. C Coby Karl

  10. Karl inspired many people that over coming a difficult challenge is not impossible. He was awarded the Jimmy V award Inspiring

  11. Karl was dedicated to fighting this cancer and come back to coaching, he did it. He came back to the 2010-2011 NBA Season. He won his 1000th game on Dec. 10 2010 Dedicated

  13. He was put in many difficult and dangerous times, but he had to overcome those fears. Brave
