  1. Worst winter Impacts and solution and what Britain might face. And also our blackout plan in school

  2. worst winter 2013: BRITAIN is braced for the "worst winter in decades" with the first major snowfall expected in weeks. • 'Persistent cold snaps with some very heavy snowfall are likely, and people would not be surprised if some records are not broken this year. • Impact: people not getting to get to work or school, airplanes problems and traffic hazards. • People are dwarfed by 30ft waves in Headland Pier, Hartlepool [NORTH NEWS] • Households in some areas have already been forced to crank up the heating in near-freezing conditions. • The snow fall is predicted to be pretty heavy this year as it is being described to be one of the worst winter in decades. • As Forecasters warned the entire country is set for a horror freeze which will bring brutal winds and fierce blizzards.

  3. School involvement • And if we were to have this winter, described as the worst winter in a century, we might have a major blackout, and this could be a major problem, since a incident in 2005 all schools are supposed to have a blackout plan to insure safety to pupils and to reassure parents. And if we do we have to be prepared as there are a lot of hazardous things if a blackout occurred. We have got 3 copies of a blackout plan located in the school in different locations.

  4. What our school might face

  5. Major effects There would be no food delivery's if there was torrential snow and therefore, it would also be difficult to move around the buildings. lessons may need to be diverted to other classrooms When there is a black out there will be no communication between the school and the parents, if it is winter it will get dark earlier so there will not be much light to go by

  6. Impacts If a blackout did occur there would be a major problem, with a lot of difficulties like , if the power went out there would be no power supporting the light and even if our back up supply went on it will not last enough to keep us safe. With this also comes the problem of no communication which could cause distress in parents. There is also the problem of the refrigerators not working. This could be a problem in both the kitchen where thee fresh food or chilled products would not last, and in the medical centre where the medicines that need to be kept cool would not be at the correct temperature and would not be able to be given out. If a torrential belt of snow did come across our section of country then the roads would be blocked and there might not be any food delivery's for up to a fortnight there might also be blocks between school buildings so it would not be easy for lessons to continue on time. It might also get extremely could and the heating would always need to be on.

  7. The solution • We have a backup generator that runs during the dark hours of the day when people are moving between buildings the diesel that powers the generator would be used sparingly. • When there is torrential snow we would use tractors to plough to the nearest junction where the trucks could make there way back up to school. • If there was more than a foot of snow then we would use the tractors to plough paths between buildings. • If there was a lot of snow then we would clear the less sturdy roves so that they would not collapse under the weight.
