Objectives of the Workshop • Exchange ideas on the future of communication technologies and standards in motor vehicles between the Automotive and Telecommunication Industries • Create a better understanding between the two industry sectors, and to combine efforts and skills to create standards for the mutual benefit • Address in particular the resulting needs in telecommunication standardization

  5. Principles of the workshop • Call for papers • The most of the presentations were received after this call. The selection was done by the Steering Commitee. • Direct contacts with SDO's Representatives and Projects Managers • To cover as much as possible the different areas involved in telecommunications and motor vehicles.

  6. Workshop Programm • Four sessions and 2 Round tables • Session 1 Diagnostics and Telematics (Monday 24, 10h50-12h30). Chaired by Mr Bob Williams (ETSI) • Session 2 Safety (vehicle and passenger safety, emergency services) . Monday 24, 14h- 17h30. Chaired by Mr Fiebig, T-Mobile Traffic • Round Table discussion on themas of sessions 1 and 2; Monday 24, 17h45-18h30; Chaired by Mr Paul Najarian (ITS America)

Workshop Programm • Four sessions and 2 Round tables • Session 3 : Communications (voice and audiovisual services); Tuesday 25, 9h-12h30,; co-chaired by Mrs Rodolfo Ceruti and Hans Gierlich (ITU-T SG 12) • Session 4 : Mobile Office (data and Multimedia services); Tuesday 25; 14h-17h20; Chaired by Mr Pierre-André Probst (SG 16) • Final Round table discussion; Recommendations, follow-up proposals from the session chairs; Conclusions; Future activities; 17h20-18h, chaired by JY Monfort (SG 12)

Proposed follow-up activities • Each speaker has been asked to focus on the needs for standardization • The needs will be filled in by the relevant standardization bodies • To coordinate the actions proposed: A coordination/cooperation Group. The terms of reference will be discussed during the workshop and submitted during the closing session.
