  3. Family background • His father was a police clerk • His brother, Adolf, studied technology • He married his friend’s widow • He took care of his friend’s 7 children

  4. music • He played the flute, trumpet, guitar, and designed the Wagner Tuba • He started at age 16 • He composed opera

  5. Misc. • He lived during the romantic era • An event that occurred during his life was the invention of the telephone • The music from the romantic era expressed great emotion • Another composer that lived during his lifetime was Franz Liszt

  7. Major Works • Three major works are Ring Cycle, Das Rheingold, and Die Walkure • Die Walkure was written about Norse Mythology and was 15 hours long.
