T Lymphocytes (Type of White Blood Cell) • Are called T cells because they are finalized in an organ called the thymus (part of immune system) but originally form in the bone marrow • 4 types (Helper, Cytotoxic, Memory, Regulatory,) • T cells differentiate in the bone marrow • Regulatory T cells control immune reactions • Helper T cells emit cytokines which causes B cells to become plasma cells which produce antibodies • The cytokines also activate Cytotoxic T cells which latch onto infected / damaged cells and destroy them • Memory T cells function to `memorize 'prior infections to provide better immune responses for repeat attacks • T cells have lysosomes which are important for breaking down and digesting the foreign material they consume through endocytosis. They also have a nicely developed cytoskeleton which aids movement and engulfing foreign material. They also have large vacuoles to store the waste.
