  2. Course requirements Language learning will be fun sometimes but is first and foremost HARD WORK!!! Vocabulary learning! Grammar crunching! Playing silly games! Singing!

  3. Three course topics • Individual and society • Leisure and work • Urban and rural environment Including sub-topics like: daily routines, education, employment, food and drink, health, shopping, transport, weather, environmental concerns etc. etc.

  4. What will you need? • File/exercise book(s) divided into sections for example A) course notes B) grammar C) vocabulary D) background studies (songs, “Russian of the week”, public holidays etc.) E) Topic adjectives F) Prepositions sheet G) Times and frequencies sheet H) Conjunctions sheet

More things you will need • Vocabulary booklet (small enough to take everywhere) or Flashcards • verb booklet (library: 501 Russian verbs) • USB stick or something similar to transfer data • Walkman/tape recorder/ipod etc where you can record your own voice and let me have it on either CD, digital or tape • BUY: Dictionary • BUY: A living Russian Grammar (see library)

  6. Tracking progress and intervention Sixth form = independent, teacher GUIDED learning - Homework in ON TIME! Language learning is progressive - Continuous vocabulary learning, ediscio.com - Seek immediate clarification and feedback • Your reponsibility to catch up missed lessons • NO MORE: Miss, I didn’t know what we did last week/I didn’t know what was set as homework…

  7. Progress tracking - regular vocabulary test - regular written homework • Independent learning tasks • Big exams in January, June • parents’ evening in July Intervention: • Contacting tutors • Contacting parents

Grades • Level 1 – 7, 7 being the best • Marks for - Language (How good is your Russian in terms of grammar/topic vocabulary knowledge/orthography and calligraphy?) - Content (Did you fulfil the speaking/ writing task? Did you cover all points?) - Communication (How cohesive/ logical/ understandable was your text/talk?)

  9. The marking criteria vary from year to year depending on the difficulty of the texts. I am using the following percentages (roughly) when marking class work: L7 > 86% L6 > 71% L5 > 55% L4 > 42% L3 > 24% L2 > 12% L1 > 0%

  10. Exams Written assignment (01/13 or 02/13) • 20%, 120 mins, externally marked Individual Oral (03/11) - 25%, 10 mins + 15 mins prep, marked by teacher, moderated by external examiner Paper 1 (05/13) • 30%, 90 mins, externally marked Paper 2 (05/13) • 25%, 60 mins, externally marked

  11. What is ediscio.com? • A place where you will find all vocabulary for you to learn online in flashcard format. • Use it regularly! Listen to the soundfiles
