Board on Research Data and Information BRDI Financial Report: Shift from core sponsorship to ad hoc project sponsors (sequestration) 5 core sponsors: NSF/ACI, DOE, NIST, NIH and IMLS Core sponsors that have stopped: NOAA, USGS and Library of Congress Potential core sponsors: NASA, NARA and DOD Project support (small amount) currently from Sloan and Moore Foundations Current shortfall leading to loss of staff, at least for ½ year.

Board on Research Data and Information BRDI undertakes the following tasks within its primary mission areas: • Addresses emerging issues in the management, policy, and use of research data and information at the national and international levels. • Through studies and reports of the National Research Council, provides independent and objective advice, reviews of programs, and assessment of priorities concerning research data and information activities for its sponsors. • Encourages and facilitates collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and nations with regard to common interests in research data and information activities. • Monitors, assesses, and contributes to the development of U.S. government and research community positions on research data and information programs and policies. • Initiates or responds to requests for consensus studies, workshops, conferences, and other activities within the Board’s mission, and provides oversight for the activities performed under the Board’s auspices. • Broadly disseminates and communicates the results of the Board’s activities to its stakeholders and to the general public.

Board on Research Data and Information Role of Board members: • Goals/functions in Statement of Task—full Board does that • Ex officio members have same “rights” as regular Board members, except travel funding • No written Academy guidance, except what not to do • Form small teams for project development and oversight • Need to discuss size and structure of BRDI in near future
