3D Printing. Creating “New Vegas”. In Sketchup Pro, click the “Get Models” icon. Search Google Earth for a famous structure. From within Sketchup , click the “Find Model” icon. In the results, find a version that says “Download Model”. Say “Yes” to load it into Sketchup.

  1. 3D Printing Creating “New Vegas”

  2. In Sketchup Pro, click the “Get Models” icon

  3. Search Google Earth for a famous structure • From within Sketchup, click the “Find Model” icon.

  4. In the results, find a version that says “Download Model”.

  5. Say “Yes” to load it into Sketchup

  7. Select the building then choose “Export STL”

  8. Before Exporting! • Choose “3D Model”. • Change the dimension to millimeters. • Name your STL file. • Make sure you know where it will save. • Click “OK”

  9. Open MakerWare

  10. Click “Add” and find your stl file

Finding the Right Scale • Take the structure’s ACTUAL feet in height and multiply x 12 to get actual inches. • The Burj Dubai is 2,722’ tall. • 2,722’ X 12” = 32,664 inches. • Because we are printing it 5,000 times smaller we divide 32,664 by 5000. (6.5 inches). • Convert inches to millimeters. • Multiply inches x 25.4

  14. Millimeters • The Burj Dubai, 5,000 times smaller than actual size is 165 millimeters tall. FACT! The Burj Dubai is the tallestbuilding in the world – by far!

  15. Click “Scale” and type in the correct millimeters for the height.

  16. Click “M” for “Make”

  17. Present! • Research information about your famous structure. • Find, at least, the following: • Location (city and country) • Year built • Size (heightor length) and how it compares to other structures like it • What is it famous for • One other interesting fact, like total cost, etc. • Present your structure when it is your turn!
