  1. August 29- Origins of Slave Trade and Importance of Note Taking Do Now: Using the reading, on a separate sheet of paper take notes on what you identify as key ideas and terms.

  2. Note taking • What is important to know from the passage? (Cross out anything you wrote down that does not follow what is important.)

The Middle Passage • What does the term “Middle Passage” mean? • Amistad- what was the Amistad rebellion? • Amistad Clip- The Middle Passage (Disclaimer: There is nudity and intense violence in this clip. If you cannot handle it, avert your eyes.) • Reflection on film clip. • What is the film-maker trying to demonstrate in this film clip? • Was he successful? How did the clip make you feel?

  4. Why do we take notes? • We remember more when we write things down. • Teachers share information that can’t be found in the textbook. • Studies prove that a person forgets 50% of a lecture within 24 hours.

  5. Teachers are always saying “write down only the important information.” How am I supposed to know what is important? • In a history class the following things are important: • Know what happened, when it happened, and who was involved. • Know why it happened. • Know why it happened in a certain way and not in other ways. • And know what the significance, consequences, or results were.
