  6. Pod 3 Colorectal Surgery

  7. Elective Colon Surgery SSIs 10.86% 8.4%

  8. Elective Rectal Surgery SSIs 21.2% 20%

  9. Pod 4 Ambulatory Services

  10. Outbreak in Thyroidectomy Cases • 5 cases from 2 surgeons within a 3 month time frame • No common pathogens • IC Team needs to observe

  11. Sterilization in the Dental Clinic • Non-standard practices observed in the Dental/Orthodontic clinics at VAV • One person was the local expert • Non-standard practices when this person was out • Standardized to off site sterilization • Labeling instruments • Be able to inspect and repair • Standard treatment for all persons

  14. Hip Infection Details • One infection occurring in July 1 infection deep ( 6+ hr surgery, EBL 1300-1500cc, with 5 units PRBCs/FFP intraop. Multiple procs– ORIF then THA. • ABX and timing appropriate • Three infections for August • 1 SIP • 2 DIP

  26. Adult CABG (Procedures w/ Sternotomy + Donor Site) SSIs 4.3% 4.88%

  27. Adult CABG (Sternotomy-Only Procedures) SSIs 0% 2.88%

  28. Adult Cardiac (non-CABG) SSIs 1.71% 0%

State Mandatory Reporting • Delayed due to H1N1 • TDOH will publish hospital infection rates for the public to view • CLABSI rates for each ICU will be published by unit per facility (excluding BICU and Trauma) • Cardiac SSI rates will be published as an aggregate for the state (Coronary bypass grafts) • Will likely be a SIR for 2008 • Tennessee regions may be separate
