Background Teaching Sustainability in B-Schools • New Age, New Rule, and New Paradigm: • Understanding Self-Actualization of Management Education • in the Age of Transcendence • Sustainability encompasses a host of new demands and • opportunities for virtually all industries, especially that of • management education. • The growth in importance and awareness of interconnected issues • among key stakeholders of business schools • (e.g., business, government, NGOs, etc.) • Sustainability is rising in strategic relevance for management • educators in pursuit of competitive advantage. • Ultimately emerging importance of sustainability in business • reflects self-actualization of capitalism and business schools.

(The Six PRME Principles) • - An initiative of UNGC to inspire and champion responsible • management education, research and thought leadership globally • - PRME is characterized as the academic side of the UNGC • - Jointly sponsored by AACSB International, Aspen Institute, European • Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), Globally • Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI), and Net Impact • More than 230 schools worldwide have signed the PRME (including 4 • Korean Member B-schools

Peace through Commerce KHU – PRME Collaborative Special Session on PRME: Asian Perspective The World Civic Forum, May 2009, Seoul • The first successful PRME conference in Asia • Arranged in responding to a call for PRME initiatives at the 1st Global Forum for PRME (New York, December 2008) • The primary purpose is to share and join the UN PRME among Asian business schools • More than 100 scholars and specialists from international organizations, corporations, education and research institutes, and about 200 students from Kyung Hee Unviersity School of Management attended this one-day special session. • In concluding the session, participants made consensus in announcing the Seoul Action Plan in order to advocate and promote the vision of Principles for Responsible Management Education among Asian business schools.
