Humans get a significant part of their food from plant seeds. Corn, wheat, rice, & beans (the edible parts) are all plant seeds 3. Does a strawberry look red because it reflects red light or absorbs red light? Reflects red light – “white” light from the Sun or a light bulb is actually made up of multiple colors – chemicals in the strawberry absorb all colors except red which is reflected off the strawberry’s skin and into your eye making the strawberry look red Picture = healthy & cancerous lungs

Hint: not a person – it’s a mnemonic (something to aid memory) Colors of rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet -- all these colors combined make “white” light) 2. True or False? A “smelly” harmless chemical called mercaptan is added by the gas company to give natural gas its odor. ---- Why? So leaks can be detected (for safety purposes) 3. Which process helps to stop erosion: irrigating land, planting trees, or clearing forests? Decreased friction = less wear on machine parts rubbing against each other 2. True or False? 280 billion gallons of water are applied to US lawns every week. Applied to 50 million lawns – remember only 3% of Earth’s water is fresh water – Do you think this is a good use of fresh water? 3. True or False? Chewing gum (if swallowed) takes 7 years to digest.
