First Scramble for Africa Conference • May 25, 2011:We started dealing with The Scramble for Africa:Perhaps we should have started from slavery earlier • In Tshwane with collaboration:(AISA, SARChI-TUT, NRF, , TAMLI, DISTONG, STAT South Africa and others joined the team) • It was inclusive with both Diaspora and Home participation • Participation of African Governments in the Expo • Tshawne Declaration I & II an outcome • Books every year: the first is the Africana World: From Fragmentation to Unity and Renaissance, and the 2nd book on Ten Years After the AU.. • Networking • Friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood, the ubuntu spirit critically important to enrich and apply to change Africa’s problems into opportunities!

THIRD Scramble forAfrica • We chose African liberation Month to address the challenges of continued scramble for Africa and to oppose it too! • The spirit of the Africa Liberation must live on • We hope the series of conferences will continue • Our team spirit must grow • The opportunity to make Africa the champion with liberation against any form of coloniality must increase • The space is open for all of you to contribute all you can • Above all build strong and trustful networking that endures with hard work as fun! • So we can continue to implement the Africa for African liberation agenda with continuity

  5. 2013 Must Be the African Liberation Education Year? • The spirit of the First and 2nd Africa Liberation must live on • Must build a 5-10 years plan for vast education • The declaration must be fed into the OAU/AU Jubilee Summit • Work very hard to produce what to communicate • We have to contribute in creating the opportunity to make Africa end all varieties of coloniality, scrambles and turn to be a true the champion with confidence and self-worth liberation • The space is open for all of you to contribute all you can • Above all use this time here to build strong and trustful networking that endures with hard work as fun! • So we can continue to contribute effectively to building Africa’s free future and agency together to go far with success

Where is Africa now:Looking back to look ahead? • Over 500 years of Slavery: negative historical data • 128 years of the Scramble for Africa…the division from that time still unrectified • OAU 50 years • 101 years of ANC, the first liberation movement in Africa • 113 years of the Pan-African Congresses • 117 years of the Ethiopian Adwa Victory as the African Victory over empire! • Eleven Years of the Africa Union • Still African disunity remains a big obstacle to build a free and dignified future.

We still have challenges in Africa • Slavery formally has ended • Colonialism formally has ended • Apartheid formally has ended • Divide and rule continues under different guises • Imperial competition to grab African resources is on now • Neo-colonialism still a danger • Re-colonialisation is also a danger (e.g. Libya and Mali, possibly others!) • Above all the colonial imagination is pervasive! • Post-coloniality is still waiting to be made

What Africa needs now… • To overcoming colonial imagination for good • African post-coloniality must be a reality • Bringing back a confindent African imagination • A free African sustainable and de-colonised future • The African logocentric imagination to defeat the colonial mentality that the econcentric choice by the existing divided states continues to recreate • Celebrate African unity and similarity to overcome disunity by appreciating any differences • Let us all create the African future by making it, and not talking it and doing disunity!

Threats to African Unity • Poor social capital that makes finance, physical and other capitals to disrupt social cohesion • Lack of adequate capital of the mind or human capital: the gold in the head needs to excavate the gold in the mines! • Prevalaence of donor-prenurship • Rent-seeking- prenurship • Tender-prenurship

Create NewAfrican Integrated Road? • An ability to integrate the various state and economic policies to inform an integrated African development agenda that centres on making sure an African developing horizontally inter-linked economy is made fully and not as it is currently practised by retaining the vertical links external to Africa based on exporting raw materials.

  11. Building unity in fragmented 53 , states caught in prisoners dilemma situation today Any chances for Building unity through AU,NEPAD,RECs levels? Locally embedded institutions rather than the donor driven ones we have today Africa First as the driver to forging consistent approach to a united Africa Unity by Accepting the Fragmentary current logic Removing the fragmentation of the RECs United politics & economics Africa may not remove the danger of re-penetration Do the RECs prevent re-penetration? Integrated Africa in all aspects ! 2014/8/20 11

The Last Word • “This is my plea to the new generation of African leaders and African peoples: work for unity with firm conviction that without unity there is no future for Africa…I reject the glorification of the nation-state, which we have inherited from colonialism, and the artificial nations we are trying to forge from that inheritance. We are all Africans trying to be Ghanaians or Tanzanians. Fortunately for Africa we have not been completely successful…Unity will not make us rich, but it can make it difficult for Africa and the African peoples to be disregarded and humiliated. And it will therefore increase the effectiveness of the decisions we make and try to implement for our development. My generation led Africa to political freedom. The current generation of leaders and peoples of Africa must pick up the flickering torch of African freedom, refuel it with their enthusiasm and determination, and carry it forward.” Julius Nyerere, First president of Tanzania
