  1. Introduction to Web Hosting

  2. Introduction Individuals or small businesses purchase web hosting because they do not have the funds or expertise to host their websites and applications on their own. Web hosting is a service mainly for the purpose of: • Registering a domain name • Building a website • Using email addresses with a customer’s own domain name

  3. Web hosting consists of the following: • Domain names • DNS • Web server space • E-mail service • Customer support • Everything else

  4. Are domain name and Web Hosting the Same? Often, internet newbies cannot tell the difference between a domain name and web hosting. You get a domain name, then you get hosting, then you build a website/create email addresses

  5. Types Of WebHosting There are three main categories of web hosting: - • Shared Hosting • Dedicated Server Hosting • Colocated Server Hosting

  6. Shared Hosting Shared hosting works by multiple websites on one server. Some have compared shared hosting to a public bus system, because it is cheap to use, and involves sharing resources with other users. Hundreds or even thousands of websites can be hosted on a single server, which creates advantages and disadvantages.

  7. Dedicated Server Hosting Dedicated Serverhosting means your website/blog is hosted on a single server that is dedicated specifically to your website/blog. This cuts out the competition of resources associated with shared hosting, and results in more robust website performance.

  8. Colocated Server Hosting Colocated Server Hosting gives you the greatest flexibility. You get to choose the hardware arrangement of the server and the software that goes on it. The hosting company maintains the connection to the Internet and environmental details such as fire controls, and air conditioning. On the other hand, you're responsible for that server's maintenance.
