  3. What company paid for his exploration? • The North West Cumpeny funded Simon Fraser exploration North West Company Crest

  4. what years did he explore? • From 1805 – 1808, he helped the the North West Company establish trading pusts west Rockies as well explored a route to Pacific.

  5. He established fort McLeod, fort st. james, fort fraser and Fort George. thought was exploring Columbia river, but actually river eventually named after him He discovered a route to the pacific osean that would help the North West company with fur trade. What did he 'discover'?

  6. What hardships did he endure? • The voyage down the Fraser River was a treacherous 520 mile, 36 day journey. This is an artist's idea of Simon Fraser's journey.

Did you know? • Simon Fraser's crew travelled by lightweight canoe and by foot. • His crew had a few narrow escapes while travelling down the Fraser river. • He kept a journal of his voyage down the Fraser river. It is in the Toronto Public Library. • He had nine children. • He was in the Canada Rebellion of 1837

  8. I wonder . . . • I wonder if Simon Fraser thought he would ever make it to the Pacific Ocean alive. • Since the First Nations helped him find his way, could he speak any of the First Nation language? • Are there any artifacts left from his journeys besides his journal?
