  1. Buy Sunglasses

  2. It’s almost Spring! You’d never know it from the four additional inches of snow that accumulated again last night, but the calendar says it – so it must be true. We are all awaiting the green grass, fresh flowers, and most importantly the sunshine that is associated with springtime.

  3. So as we put away our winter coats and pull out the short-sleeved shirts, we must remember the other important thing Spring means – it’s time to buy sunglasses.

  4. Of course, with all the snow piled up outside, we should technically have a pair or two purchased already – to block out the bright white glare off said snow in the morning.

  5. People forget about the need for sunglasses at this particular time of year –that is until they step outside, see the snow glare, and wish they had grabbed a pair.

  6. Often times, sunglasses or only thought of on warm sunny days, or as fashion accessories to set on top on one’s head. But we must not forget the true purpose behind sunglasses – to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays.

  7. Of course that is not the only reason people buy and wear sunglasses – they are a great way to express one’s personality and individuality while purchasing and using something functional.

  8. Sunglasses were originally createdinvented sometime in 12th century China. Back then, the glasses were a slab of smoked quartz that was made to block out the light from the sun.

  9. The crude frames were roughly shaped to be able to hold them against the face of the user. These lenseswere only made for the very rich. They were not vision-corrected.

  10. They also did not protect against harmful UV rays. However, they did provide some relief from the bright sun. They were also used to hide emotions from others when speaking with them.

  11. It wasn’t until centuries later that modifications were made to these basic glasses that allowed for vision correction – so everyone can wear sunglasses even if you have vision problems. A simple prescription pair will do the job – and of course they come in all styles and colors.

  12. In 1936, Polaroid filters had been invented by Edwin H. Land, founder of the Polaroid Corporation, allowing glasses to protect against harmful UV rays for the first time, and making a desirable item for health aid as well as for reasons of fashion and comfort.

  13. It wasn’t until the 20th century that sunglasses became sighted more on the fashion scene. In present days, sunglasses are worn not only to protect from the harsh light of the sun but also as a way to present our style and personality – with different colored and patterned frames or even lenses.

  14. So let’s all go outside with our sunglasses on and hope for all the sunshine to come within the next few weeks. Grab a pair – or one for each day of the week – and have safe fun out in the sun while doing all our outdoor activities. I’m sure everyone is ready for Spring and Summer instead of all this snow and cold.
