This document explores a holistic approach for collecting information across various networking paradigms including WLAN, WMN, MANET, WSN, and Ethernet. It emphasizes the importance of cluster formation, gateway selection, and efficient data protocols to ensure minimal delay, energy efficiency, and data consistency. Recent progress includes the design of delay-aware cluster mechanisms based on mobility patterns, implemented in Qualnet 5.0. Future steps focus on integrating energy-efficient functionalities and developing a robust data format and action protocol to guarantee quality information at the sink.

Information Collection in multinetwork Zhijing Qin
The whole picture 1. The motivation is from the big picture that combine all the possible network together to collect information
Our focus : WMN clients :Ad hoc clients : gateway : sink 2. Currently we just focus on a part of the whole picture in figure 1, which includes WLAN, WMN, MANET, WSN and Ethernet. 3. Make cluster and choose gateway as the infrastructure of information collection 4. objective: a) less delay. b) energy efficient. c) data consistency(data quality).
Cluster mechanism • Cluster formation • Functionality based • Cluster maintenance • Load balance • Gateway selection (shortest path to the sink) • Data format and quality
Current progress • Designed a delay-aware cluster mechanisms based on the different mobility in different network. • Implement this mechanism and other delay-aware protocol (connected dominating set and weekly connected dominating set )in Qualnet 5.0, and make comparison.
Next step • Add energy efficient functions in the delay-aware mechanism • Design the data format we collect and action protocol which is deployed in the sink to guarantee the data quality.
