Injury Report Jan 2013- Dec 2013 Trends Suggest • Multiple Back Injuries, Head Injuries, Eye Injuries, Laceration of fingers, and Hand/Wrist Injuries . • The need for more prevention/awareness to hazards in the workplace. • Emphasis on safety training within the workplace • Due out to develop FECA Award no injuries in shops!

  26. Standards for Timely Filing Claim • Traumatic Injury- Reported on electronic injury form CA-1 within 30 days of the injury • Occupational Disease- Reported on electronic injury form CA-2 within 30 days of the injury • Time starts when the supervisor is notified!

  27. Timely Filing • Last FECA Council Observation: • Jan 2013- Dec 2013 timely filing wasn’t an issue with only 2 claims identified as untimely out of 54 claims filed! • That is awesome lets keep the communication going!!!

Cost Analysis Chargeback • FECA Program is financed by the Employees’ Compensation Fund • Cost derives from previous year injury claims, death claims, temporarily disable, or daily rolls, permanent disable or period rolls. • Cost of compensation for work related injuries are charged annually at the end of fiscal accounting period July to June • OWCP furnishes each agency with a statement of payments made to the fund. • OWCP provides a listing of the cases and charges on the yearly chargeback bill

  29. Cost Analysis State Assessment 2013 • Cost analysis reflect increase from last year chargeback by $ 18,673.67 from previous year chargeback cost. • 1 New claim went to long term rolls with future return to work potential.

Challenged Claims • Injuries must be initially investigated by supervisor! • If claimant case is questionable supervisors must report facts. • We can challenge claims when filing the electronic CA-1 or CA-2 and provide supporting documentation • A safety investigation can either validate or challenge injury claim • There were no claims challenged for CY 2013 !

  32. Action Items • Future Leaning Forward: The purpose of this committee is to decrease the number of injuries and cost How do we get our injuries down from 54 to 0? We are paying for the past year injury claims! Lets work together and come up with a plan and reward those shops that are going without any injuries!
