  1. 5 Things to Avoid in the speaking part of the IELTS Exam 2021

  2. Introduction The IELTS exam is the most popular English language exam taken by many candidates around the world. IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System and is administered jointly by the IDP and the British Council. The IELTS Singapore exam judges candidates on four different skills related to the English language: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Among all the sections mentioned over here, the speaking part bothers candidates the most. It is because you have to talk to the examiner flawlessly in the speaking section of the IELTS test Singapore. As the title suggests, we are going to discuss some important things that you need to take care of during the IELTS speaking exam. So, let’s dig in right away.

  3. Common Mistakes to Avoid in the IELTS Speaking test 1. Don't throw memorized answers at the examiners It is probably the worst mistake you want to make in the speaking part of the IELTS exam. Remember, there's no right and wrong answer in the speaking test, it's all about how well you speak English and that's it. Remember, never try to utter answers that you've memorized before the speaking test. You may get penalized for the same and the long IELTS preparation journey will ultimately go into vain.

  4. 2. Repeating the question to make answers Suppose you're asked some question "What's your favorite sport to watch?," you shouldn't start the answer by saying "My favorite sport to watch" and so on. It may sound like you're mimicking the examiner and disrespecting them. So, please avoid doing this in the IELTS test. Also, you need to know that you will score heavily if you choose to present your answer in a much better manner.

  5. 3. The Unrelatableanswer can be troublesome If you completely fail to address the question and answer accordingly, I'm afraid you may lose a good amount of marks in IELTS Exam. So, it is best that you pause and recall what you are going to say in your mind. Don't just start answering for the sake of answering; it should be relatable to the question.

  6. 4. Saying too much or too little Answering too little or too much can be bad for your IELTS band. It is because the less you speak, the less will be the chances of you showing your ability. On the contrary, if you speak too much you might be prone to committing mistakes in the IELTS exam Singapore. For your reference, you need to answer two to four sentences in Part 1. While Part 2 dedicatedly indicates the amount of time one needs to speak. Also, you should aim to speak at least three to six sentences after each question.

  7. 5. Saying ‘I don’t understand’ If you don't understand what the examiner is trying to ask you, just simply ask them through alternative phrases. You can simply say could you say that again, please? or Do you mean .…? This shows that you partially understand what's being asked and you're not confused about it. That's all for now, next up will be some interesting tips and tricks related to the writing part of the IELTS Singapore exam. Signing off for now.
