  2. 1939 • 1º settembre 1939 - Invasione della Polonia. In pochi giorni i tedeschi sbaragliano il mal equipaggiato esercito polacco e occupano buona parte del paese • 3 settembre - Francia e Gran Bretagna dichiarano guerra alla Germania. Spagna, Svezia, Turchia e Stati Uniti dichiarano la propria neutralità. • 17 settembre - Truppe russe invadono alcune regioni della Polonia orientale • 27 settembre - Varsavia cade in mano ai tedeschi • 29 settembre - Tedeschi e russi si accordano per la spartizione della Polonia.
