Rodin • Was originally part of a larger commission called the Gates of Hell which he never finished in the 37 years he worked on them • The gates were based on Dante’s Divine Comedy a 14th century epic poem • The gates inspired many of his other creations such as “the thinker” which originally represented the poet Dante • The Thinker was the first work by Rodin to get publicly displayed. • Currently there are several copies of the artwork throughout the world
