HKS / WHARTON DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM BACKGROUND • Started as an initiative of a Wharton student in 2007 • 2008-2009: 14 students • 2009-2010: 27 students • Currently: ~ 45 students • HKS/Wharton Clubs were formed at both campuses last year • Strong interest on both sides from prospective students • There are currently students from three HKS degree programs • MPP • MPA • MPA/ID

HKS / WHARTON DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM OVERVIEW • Total Completion Time: 3 years • Wharton and HKS each require 3 semesters of residency • Current HKS students must spend full first year at Wharton for the MBA core curriculum (next year). • MBA Degree at Wharton • MPP, MPA, or MPA/ID Degree Harvard Kennedy School • Apply before or during first year at Wharton • Two possible schedules for current Wharton students:

  6. MASTER OF PUBLIC POLICY (MPP) • Largest program at HKS: ~ 300 students • Core curriculum • Possibility to waive certain core courses • Policy analysis exercise (PAE) • Average work experience ~ 3 years

  7. MASTER OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION (MPA) • ~ 80 students (most are joint degree students or students with a previous master’s degree) • Flexible curriculum – almost all elective courses • International student body (56%) • Work experience – minimum 3 years at time of application

MASTER OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION/ INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (MPA/ID) • ~65 students (72% international, many joint degrees) • Highly quantitative program with rigorous economics-based core curriculum (admissions prerequisites in economics and multivariate calculus) • 2nd Year Policy Analysis Paper • Work Experience: strongly recommended

HKS ADMISSIONS CRITERIA • Application requirements: • Background information • Application essays (including one policy analysis paper) • Transcripts • Three letters of recommendation • GMAT or GRE • TOEFL (for those who did not do their undergraduate degree in English) • Resume • Make sure you explain why you want a dual degree • Application Dates • Apply: December 3, 2010 • Hear: Late March/Early April
