  6. Mission • To create a welcoming environment for all veterans, active duty, and reserve members of the armed forces by assisting them in adapting the skill set developed from military training and combat experience to facilitate a successful college experience.

  7. Philosophy Respect and Appreciation This message is embedded and communicated in all college processes

  8. Philosophy Inclusiveness Emphasis on primary prevention to facilitate academic success for all OIF/OEF veterans, with disabilities or not

  9. Philosophy Removal of Stigma Focus on assisting the veteran to explore and identify how military training and combat experience can be a source of personal strength and resilience towards a successful college experience

  10. Objective • To provide academic and social opportunities and appropriate support services for • OIF and OEF veterans, specifically • All veterans • Active duty and reserve members of the armed forces

  11. Objective Connection To provide opportunities for veterans to meet and interact with each other without stigma.

  12. Objective Identification of Resources Resources are identified and made available to all veterans.

  13. Objective Wellness • Promote optimal psychological, spiritual, and physical recovery from combat • Exercise as treatment • Provide opportunities to connect with other veterans

  14. Objective College community education • Emphasis on training faculty and staff regarding veterans’ military and combat experiences • Awareness of specific combat issues, impact in the classroom, and possible solutions • Promote sensitivity to the shared experience of this population

  15. Implementation • Small adjustments to existing college offerings and activities • Liaison with Veterans Administration and local community resources

  16. Program Features for Students • Single Point of Entry: Admissions • Identified Counseling Faculty • Identified Disability Support Services Counseling • Peer Mentoring • Referral to VA and local resources
