Hair clips are a unique accessory because they not only provide the function of clipping hair in place, but they also serve as a fashion statement. Hair clips are great for accessorizing outfits, hair styles, and occasions. But choosing the correct clip is no simple matter. When buying a hair clip, you must consider the type of clip that will work best for your hair. For instance, some clips are better for thicker hair while some are better for finer hair. Alligator Clips Alligator clips are a sturdy hair accessory that comes in single or double prong styles, usually with a spring that helps to clamp the hair in place. Snap Clips Snap clips usually are usually rounded at one end and pointed at the other. Often made of plastic or metal, they are flat and must be bent downward to clip hair in place. To unclip the hair, simply bend the metal or plastic upward and the clip will open. Although snap clips come in many different sizes it is best used on fine hair since this clip's holding mechanism is not that strong. Snap clips are great for dressing up your child's hair or using on your own hair for a more youthful look. Snap clips are great for toddlers through adults.
French Clips A French clip may hold a lot of hair at a time since it is built with a tension bar in the middle, made out of metal, that will auto lock when closed shut with the clasp. Usually, to unlock a French clip, you would press on the outer clasps until the tension bar is released. French clips are great if you have thick, voluminous, curly or long hair that must be kept out of your face and still be bound neatly in place. French clips are good for girls and adults of all ages as they are more conservative in appearance. They are typically worn in the back of the head.
Condor Clip The Condor clip is very similar to the alligator clip. There are small teeth along the long pointed ends of the hair clip to help keep hair in place. Condor clips are long, usually ranging from 5-6", and it is held open with pressure and closed shut by releasing the larger end of the clip when the hair is in place. Condors are great for styling up dos or buns. These clips err on the more formal side, usually featuring elegant designs for dressier occasions. Good for thick or fine hair depending on the size and composition of the clip. These condor clips are best suited for adult hair as it takes a fair amount of styling to make it work.
