  1. A Database Service – Thank you Mr. Conrad for funding this! EBSCO Databases

  2. Want to sign in? http://search.epnet.com Ask for user name and password There is a lot of good stuff here, but the best place to start is right here.

  3. EBSCO isn’t just a database, but rather a database service. They offer databases that you can use for different reasons. • Some are dedicated to students: • Academic Search Premier – designed for college students • Mas Ultra School Edition - designed for high school students and contains articles that they would use for reports. Also bios, reference resources, images and more. • Middle Search Plus - designed for middle school students with magazines chosen for that population • Primary Search – designed for elementary students

  4. More Databases: • Here are some for teachers: • Professional Development Collection: Contains articles chosen for teachers. Includes many that are peer reviewed. • ERIC - Education Resource Information Center: Contains many abstracts and some full text articles. • Others target the general public: • MasterFILE Premier: covers the broad range of topics that you would expect to be needed by patrons of public libraries • Health Source Consumer Edition: A great place to find articles on health issues • Newspaper Source: Contains national and international newspapers • Some cover specific topics: • Regional Business News • Business Source Premier • GreenFILE – Covers the human impact on the environment

  5. The searches are pretty uniform in these databases with tiny differences: You can search different parts of the document: the title? The author? The full text? All search terms? Some?

  6. And then there are more limiters:

  7. It is best to search one database at a time – the results are faster (read this as less demanding on the system). You can also browse this way…

  8. Which can be really cool and fun… And a great way to keep up with new trends without putting out cash!

  9. You can read the article, send it to yourself, print it, get the citation – or my favorite: save it in your computer so you don’t clutter up your desk with misc. stuff!!!

  10. Play with these databases, you can find historical images, primary sources, and much more. Take time to look at the first page – you will learn more about what each database does. This stuff is fabulous. What more could you possibly want?
