  1. Welcome to Third Grade! The Timbers’ Third Grade Team We are looking forward to a fantastic third grade year! • Grace Leeds • Kim Banks • Mona Malinowski • Susan Vento • James Kellgren

  2. Timbers’ Expectations • We will be respectful. • We will be responsible. • We will be safe.

  3. Arrival • Breakfast: Report to the cafeteria beginning at 7:30. • Breakfast ends at 8:00. • Students not eating breakfast will report directly to the third grade hallway.

  4. Attendance • Tardy after 8:05 *Please be on time! • After 8:15 parents must sign students in at the office. • If your child will be absent, please be sure to call the absent line: 281-641-2019 & send a written absence note.

  5. Snack Attack • Examples of some dry healthy snacks include: -goldfish, pretzels, dry cereal, granola bars, crackers, etc. -water is allowed in class in a spill proof container (no screw tops)

  6. Binder • The Third Grade binder will be sent home and returned every day. • Tuesday Folders will go home in the binder each week. Look for graded assignments and important school info. Please review, sign, and return on Wednesday.

  7. Hit a Home Run with Homework! • Students will copy homework into their planner each day. • This typically includes: -Reading for at least15 minutes (log the title and initial in the planner) -Math -Spelling

  8. Wonderful Words Their Way • Students will be placed in leveled spelling groups. • Each group will have their own set of words for the week. • The weekly spelling homework format will be posted in their spelling notebook.

  9. Positive Behavior Our school and the third grade team has developed a system of rewards to encourage positive behaviors: • Classroom Rewards • Hallway tickets that reinforce school expectations • Individual student rewards through signature cards ~Students can shop at the signature store!~ • Cafeteria Rewards for “Staying on Green”!

  10. Dismissal Transportation • Students are dismissed at 3:20. • New this year, all third grade car riders will be dismissed as front car riders unless their K-2 sibling is being dismissed as back car rider. • Procedures for walkers, day care, and bikers will remain the same.

  11. Dismissal • Please fill out how your child goes home on the yellow dismissal card and give to your teacherbefore you leave tonight! • A parent note is required if your child will be going home a different way than what is listed on the dismissal form. • If an emergency arises, you must call the office before 2:45. No changes may be made after that time.

  12. Conduct Cards Conduct Marks • Warning given • Conduct mark given • 2 marks/day = miss part of recess • 3 marks/day = Detention • 6 marks/week = Detention Work Habit Marks • Work habit marks are given for missing homework and/or not being prepared for class. *Missing homework results in missing part of recess. Parents please review your childs’ conduct card daily in the binder.

  13. Detention Details • After school Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. • You will be notified prior to the date. • Parents are responsible for transportation. • Excessive detentions will result in additional discipline.

  14. Birthday Treats • Parents may still purchase frozen treats from the cafeteria. Or…. • Parents may send in store bought cupcakes or individually wrapped treats. Teacher must be notified 48 hours in advance so that they have time to notify parents of students with allergies. These are to be dropped off at the front office. Or…. • Parents may send in pencils, stickers, or small games.

  15. Communication is Key • Sign up on your teacher’s account! (See your child’s teacher for an information sheet.) • Sign up online to have the HOWL Newsletter emailed to you • Follow Timbers on @humbleisd_te • Like the Timbers Elementary PTO on to receive notifications

  16. Your Support Is Essential Your involvement in your child’s learning experience at Timbers is a meaningful component of their success. • Take time to join our PTO! • Feel free to call, email, or schedule a conference with your teacher if you have any questions.

  17. Grant a Wish Make wishes come true for your child’s classroom! See your homeroom classroom teacher’s supply wish list before leaving tonight. Thank you for your support!
