  2. Conference Venue • Conference will be held at the Omni hotel, San Diego downtown • - Half of the room nights have been picked up so far

  4. Conference Format • Both ICOPS and SOFE will have one technical program with parallel sessions • There will be • - one registration fee for both meetings • - combined reception and banquet • - two mini-courses

  5. Important Details • Budget approved by IEEE • IEEE concentration account has been opened • Conference budget about $500 k • funds so far • - $25k from the Department of Energy • - $20k loan from IEEE • - $5k each from NRL, GA, SNL and LLNL • - $10k from AFOSR • - $7k from NSF • Bo Yu’s software for abstract submission and registration • Tony Lavietes’s LCD projectors and computers + two staff staff

Abstracts • 543 abstracts from 31 countries have been submitted with the following distribution • - Basic Processes in Fully and Partially Ionized Plasmas 90 (33 oral, 47 poster, 10 either) • - Microwave Generation and Plasma Interaction 75 (41 oral, 31 poster, 3 either)  • - Charged Particle Beams and Sources 43 (25 oral, 16 poster, 2 either)  • - High Energy Density Plasmas and their Interactions 139 (71 oral, 60 poster, 8 either)  • - Industrial, Commercial and Medical Applications 120 (42 oral, 62 poster,16 either)  • of Plasmas • - Plasma Diagnostics 33 (13 oral, 13 poster, 7 either)  • - Pulsed Power and Other Plasma Applications 43 (15 oral, 21 poster, 7 either) 

  9. Social Program • Welcome reception Sunday evening • Plan of an additional reception depending on funds • - Women in Science and IEEE members • Baseball game on Tuesday night • Combined ICOPS and SOFE Banquet on Wednesday evening • - Possible concert after the Banquet

Important Dates • Abstract submission deadline has passed • Technical program has been finalized • Student travel applications February 27, 2009 • - 20k (from NSF and DOE to support student travel) • Notice of acceptance March 13, 2009 • Hotel booking March 27, 2009 • Advance registration May 1, 2009 • Minicourses registration May 1, 2009 • - Phelps Grant to support minicourses students (?)
