West Acton Boardwalk • Friends of West Acton Boardwalk established • Have raised $2,900 so far, from PTO donations and T-Shirt sales ($12 and $8) • Started community outreach • Oktoberfest booth first opportunity to inform citizens of proposed plan • Website: www.boardwalk.westacton.net • Conducting survey online and in person • Community outreach is continuing • Survey results being tabulated • Plan for 11/10/2008 CPC application

West Acton Boardwalk • Overall Plan • Propose ideal design for schools and community • Fund all with grants and donations • Prelim cost estimates $70k-$90k • Redesign structure to • Make handicap accessible • Allow for more and longer observation • Increase usage • Improve environmental impact • Increase educational effectiveness

West Acton Boardwalk • Educational Aspects • Ideas suggested from teachers and community members • Proposing 4 interactive interpretive stations that describe the environment and habitat • Proposing dock to allow for water sampling for nature walks • Proposing small storage areas for nature walk materials • Proposing railings to allow for easier study

  11. West Acton Boardwalk • Proposed Design • Raise height over water flow level (18”-20”) • Replace wood boards with composite, recycled material • Widen by 2 feet • Add railing and toe stops • Add floating dock for water sampling • Add small walkway to “kid island” • Add solar lighting
