  18. Microsoft has been using the same format for Office products since Office 97, (doc, ppt, xls, etc). The new format has changed the files to docx, xlsx, pptx, etc. • The new files incorporate XML- a standardized programming language that will make documents, presentations, etc. more easily translatable from machine to machine. • To see an Office 2007 file with an older version of Office, you will need to download a patch for your older version of Office (available in Tech Resources). For documents sent to parents, save as a PDF or as a ‘97-’03 format.
