Economic Impact • $2.85 billion – annual direct impact of community hospitals to North Dakota economy • $4.78 billion – annual total economic impact (direct and secondary) For comparison, ND tourism industry has $4.6 billion impact (2010) and ND lignite coal industry has $3 billion impact.
Economic Impact • 77% - percentage of dollars spent by community hospitals that remain in North Dakota.
Employment Impact • 21,500 – number of full-time workers directly employed by ND community hospitals • 36,300 – number of full-time positions generated by ND community hospitals (direct and secondary) • $54,444 – average annual wage for hospital worker according to Job Service ND, 22% higher than state average
Employment Impact • 13.5% - percentage of ND workforce employed in health care and social services sector • Largest non-governmental employer • 1 out of every 7 ND workers employed in health care or social services • Five of the top six largest employers in the state are hospitals/health systems
