A new Programme Manager will be joining the National Pathology Programme early in 2013. The NPPB held a workshop in September 2012 to consider what benefits might be associated with a singly managed National Pathology Service for Wales. A paper was presented to the Chief Executives’ Forum in December 2012 and this will be further Discussed when the NPPB meets next on 11th January 2013 Another key date is 25th January 2013, when an inaugural meeting will take place to consider the establishment of an appropriate group to take forward South Wales Pathology Modernisation. National Pathology Operational Management Group (NPOMG) The NPOMG comprises Health Board and Trust Senior Pathology Operational Managers plus chairs of specific sub-groups. The NPOMG reports to the NPPB. The arrangement of sub-groups was recently reviewed to align with the NPOMG priorities for 2013. The former Pathology Quality Management Forum and HTA Designated Individuals’ Group have become an All Wales Pathology Governance / Assurance Group and the former POCT Coordinators Group has become the Non-Laboratory Pathology Group. A Workforce / Scientific Education & Training Group closely aligned to the Modernising Scientific Careers Implementation Programme has also been established and an IT & Informatics Group is proposed to complete the Structure reporting to the NPPB through the NPOMG. The opportunities in respect of Business Intelligence which the new All Wales LIMS provides will be a key workshop item when the NPOMG meets next on 16th January 2013.
