  1. How Easy Are They To Build? Build-a-Blinkie Workshop Beginners Intermediate Advanced RocketKit-19 $10-$15 What is Build a Blinkie? 5RGBKit-04B $10 4 RGBKit-04 $10 AllgatorKit-11 $10-$15 This is where you get to build one of those LED flashing things. You might have seen a few at various conventions and other places that enjoy a bit of hands-on make-and-take activities. Over the years a couple thousand blinkies have been assembled. You start with the kit, and use the tools we have in the room. When you are done, you have a working blinkie. We have blinkie Techs to help you debug any problems. The average Blinkie builder takes about 75 minutes, and if it is your 1st time using a soldering iron we suggest you start with a beginner’s kit. 24 LED SphereKit-09b $15-$25 4x4 squareKit-10$35 7x8 MatrixKit-03B $10-$20 www.2DKits.com 19 LED CircleKit-02 $10-$17 Simple 4 Dogtag Kit-16 $5-$10 6 LED DogtagKit-14 $5-$8 2 RGB DogtagKit-15 $7 StarKit-21 $8-$13 8x8 MatrixKit-20 $45 4x4x4 cubeKit-10 $80 Xmas TreeKit-23 $10-$15 14 RGB Stick Kit-05 19 LED Stick Kit-08 $5-$10 Simple 4 Kit-07 $5-$10 6 LED Circle Kit-01B $8-$11 Atomic Musecon Kit-01 $5-$10 3x3 MatrixKit-06 $10-$14 12 LED CircleKit-09 $10-$15 8x16 MatrixKit-10B $20 8x16 MatrixKit-10 $15 07/2014

  2. Soldering Tools Can’t get enough of the Blinkies? Decided to take a kit home, but need tools? An excellent choice for doing a couple of kits at home. We have been very pleased with the temp controlled soldering station. Several people asked if we sell them so we picked up a few extra on our last order. Pg-01 Pg-26

  3. Beginners USB Battery widgets 6 Circle G2Kit-01b A number of the Blinkie have USB ports, here are some battery to USB power solution for your Blinkie. The 6 LED circle was a the 1st blinkie design we created. It’s a classic, we are out of circuit boards. When ordering new boards we made a number of improvements, so many that we are calling it a new product. Learn to build a blinkie. It’s a 2.0” by 2.6” with a mounting pin on the back side. The LEDs are controlled by a PIC processor. Multiple blinking patterns controlled by a pattern selection button. Lanyards How about a lanyard to hang the blinkie from? Batteries Although each Blinkie kit comes with a set, don’t forget an extra set batteries for your Blinkie. Pg-25 Pg-02

  4. Simple 4Kit-07 Beginners 4x4x4 RGB CubeKit-13 Advanced We picked up some bright LEDs with a built in flasher chip and we were so impressed with them, we created a simple, easy-to-solder 1.5” square board around them. Dwayne has always wanted to make an LED cube after seeing them on the internet. The soldering of LEDs to a wire lattice just seemed too fragile. Dwayne learned the circuit board maker could do sophisticated board cuts. The design of the Cube is 8 circuit boards, 3 upper levels, 1 bottom driver board and 4 legs, creating a 3.25 x 3.25 x 3.25 cube. With 64 RGB LEDs Dwayne added 4 driver chips to help the PIC drive the 192 LEDs. This blinkie comes with and is powered by a USB wall wart that plugs into 110 volt. You will see CR2032 battery clips on the silkscreen because the 4x4 RBG matrix uses the same circuit board. Batteries just don’t last long enough driving 192 LEDs. Pg-03 Pg-24

  5. Simple 4DogTag Kit-16 Beginners • 24 SphereKits-17 Advanced The Simple 4 Dogtag Down at Blinkie Labs, we found we had extra board material as part of a future project. Rather than waste it, we took it as a challenge. Looking for something really spectacular? Yes, we designed the 12 LED Circle Blinkiesso a second board can interlock with the first, forming a sphere of 24 LEDs. But it gets better. There are multiple LED placement options for each board. Create a truly unique Blinkie! What you see here is the result. A 4 LED dogtagblinkie, which can have either single, two-color, or RGB LEDs. Since it is designed to be worn with a chain or lariat, you can see where we got the name. Pg-23 Pg-04

  6. 6 LED DogTagKit-14 Beginners 8x7 MatrixKit-03B Advanced The 6 LED Dogtag Down at Blinkie Labs, we found we had extra board material as part of a future project. Rather than waste it, we took it as a challenge. This is a 8x7 Matrix Blinkie Kit. It’s a 2.12” by 3.375” credit card sized double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side. Patterns and text scroll on a matrix made up of 56 LEDs. It can be powered by 2 CR2032 batteries or via the USB port. Best yet, it can connect to a PC via the USB port and a text message can be programmed. (with software loaded on your PC). What you see here is the result. A six LED dogtagblinkie, which can have either single or two-color LEDs. Since it is designed to be worn with a chain or lariat, you can see where we got the name. Pg-05 Pg-22

  7. 4x4 RGB MatrixKit-12 Beginners 2 RGB DogTagKit-15 Advanced The 2 RGB Dogtag Down at Blinkie Labs, we found we had extra board material as part of a future project. Rather than waste it, we took it as a challenge. Watch as colors wash from side to side, corner to corner, up/down, fading in and fading out. 16 RGB LEDs, each individually firing to create the penultimate in mesmerizing patterns. It’s a 3.15 square board, with a 4x4 array of RGB Leds. You might have noticed it is the same board we use for the base of the 4x4x4 cube. The design has two buttons to select the pattern What you see here is the result. A 2 RGB dogtagblinkie. Since it is designed to be worn with a chain or lariat, you can see where we got the name. Pg-21 Pg-06

  8. Advanced 4 RGBKit-04 Beginners 8x16 Matrix G2Kit-10B This is a update to the 8x16 matrix. Dwayne found some most excellent square RGB LEDs, and created a prototype to showoff to Dale, convincing him it was worth the investment to buy lots of the LEDs. We removed the IR emitter and detector to make room for the USB interface. You can now update the 1st message via your computer (with software loaded on your PC). We switched to the CR2032 batteries, and the unit can also be powered by a micro USB charger. It's a 2.2” by 1.4” double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side. It has 4 RGB LEDs controlled by a PIC processor. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. Pg-07 Pg-20

  9. 8x8 RGB MatrixKit-20 5 RGBKit-04B Beginners Advanced If you are a blinkie connoisseur, we have a new showpiece blinkie for you! Watch as colors wash from side to side and corner to corner, fading in and fading out. 64 RGB LEDs, each individually firing to create the ultimate in mesmerizing patterns. Our first 4 RGB Blinkie was so successful, we have almost sold out! We took the opportunity to make some improvements over the original design, resulting in the new and superior 5 RGB Blinkie. In addition to the extra LED, improvements include longer battery life and wider circuit traces for more beginner-friendliness. Our biggest improvement was solving the round-peg-in-a-square-hole problem. A clever bit of engineering allows either square RGB LEDs *or* round 10mm RGB LEDs to be used. The 5 RGB is a 1.5” by 2.6” double-sided circuit board with a pin-back for wearing, which will display various user-selectable patterns. Features of the 8x8 RGB Matrix include a display that is slightly larger than the board, so kits can be tiled to create a larger panel; full USB interface to provide both power and programming, in addition to the internally stored patterns; and three different power options - standard AAA battery, rechargable AAA, or a AA USB power source. The 8x8 RGB matrix display is based on a 2.4” by 2.4” double sided circuit board. Advanced Pg-19 Pg-08

  10. Intermediate Xmas TreeKit-23 Beginners Atomic MuseconKit-18 Our circuit board maker was able to do advance cutouts for the cube. We worked with our friendly artist Mskivin to push our board maker to the limit. We though we would create the blinkie for the season. Your not late for Christmas, just up to a year early. This is a 3.8 by 3 in board with twenty 3mm LEDs and 2 CR2032 batteries. Pg-09 Pg-18

  11. Intermediate Intermediate 19 StickKit-08 3x3 MatrixKit-06 It's a 2.1" by 3.2" double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side that requires assembly and soldering. It has 9 single or bi-color LEDs that will display various user-selectable patterns. There is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. One of the special features of the 3x3 are the 5 push buttons. So, for a technical challenge, Dale asked how many LEDs can you put in a line using the our smallest PIC, and the 19 LED Stick was created. It’s a 0.6” by 8.25” double-sided circuit board with a hole for hanging from a lariat. It has 19 LEDs controlled by a PIC processor. This allows for some fairly intricate blinking patterns. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. Pg-17 Pg-10

  12. 12 CircleKit-09 Intermediate RocketKit-19 Intermediate The Rocket. Three RGB 10mm LEDs for the portals, 3 LEDs for the thrusters, and 7 LEDs for the running lights. It's a 5" by 2.375" double-sided circuit board in the shape of an rocket. This blinkie design was introduced in 2012 at Musecon. We always try to support different levels of assembly skills, this time we think we nailed them all with a single design. Starting with a 3 inch circle, we placed 12 LEDs around the edge, a very easy to solder board. Dale wanted support for 10mm LEDS, so we added support for them too! With so many assembly options, take a look through the options to decide how you want to assemble yours. Pg-11 Pg-16

  13. 14 RGB StickKit-05 AlligatorKit-11 Intermediate Intermediate The 19 LED Stick has proved to be very popular and so Dwayne wanted to improve on the design. Thus the 14 RGB Stick was designed. It's a 2.0" by 8.25" double-sided circuit board with a hole for hanging from a lariat that requires assembly and soldering. It has 14 RGB LEDs that will display various user-selectable patterns. There is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. The Alligator's snarly, toothy grin lights up with 15 LEDs, whilst it stares you down with an RGB LED eye. And lest your think that's all, it talks to any nearby Gators with an IR equipped tail. Pg-15 Pg-12

  14. 19 CircleKit-02 Intermediate StarKit-21 Intermediate This is a 19 Circle Blinkie Kit. It’s a 1.8” by 2.6” double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side. It has 19 LEDs controlled by a PIC processor. This allows for some fairly intricate blinking patterns. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkies. Be your very own wild west character with this gold five-pointed 5 LED Sheriff Star. This blinkie badge has special silver artwork done by MSkirvin. This 4.3” by 4.3” double-sided circuit board has pin-back so you can wear your sheriff star on your leather vest, or other clothing. It can be built with various LEDs (single, bi-color, or square RGB), and will display various user-selectable patterns. Pg-13 Pg-14
