  2. Eric Carle is known and loved by millions of young children and their parents. He is known mostly for his unique illustrations as well as his famous writing style • He was born in Syracuse, New york, on June 25, 1929. • When he was six years old his parents moved him to Germany. He loved America so much that he decided he would become a bridge builder. He stated, “I would build a bridge from Germany to America and take my beloved German grandmother by the hand across the wide ocean.” • He grew up in Germany during Hitler’s reign; in 1939 his world was flipped upside down. His father was gone for eight years where he loyally served in the German army and then became a prisoner of the Soviet Union About Eric Carle

While living in Germany he graduated from Akademie der bildendenKünste, an Art school in Stuttgart. • In 1952 he moved back to America and found a job at the New York Times as a Graphic Designer. • The first book that Eric Carle ever created on his own was 1, 2,3 to the Zoo and then came his most famous The Very hungry Caterpillar. • He has illustrated more than 70 books and more than 88 million copies of his books are sold around the world.
