  3. What will we define today? Define metaphors and use them in writing.

  4. What is a metaphor? A metaphor compares two things that are not alike. A metaphor does not use like or as. In a metaphor, one things is said to be another. ex: The lake was a mirror Why do we use metaphors?

  5. Why is it important to understand Metaphors? To become better readers and recognize when the author is trying to entertain us or make us laugh. To make us better writers and make our writing more vivid and creative.

  6. Metaphor- A metaphor compares two things that are not alike. A metaphor does not use like or as. In a metaphor, one things is said to be another. Example: Her hand were machines that worked the knitting needles without even thinking. Non Example: Her eyes shone like stars in the sky. Simile because it compares two unlike things using “like” or “as”
