The ProActive Grid Plugtests held from 2004 to 2006 brought together 20 to 40 sites worldwide, featuring impressive processing power with over 4,130 cores and total performance nearing 1,700 GFlops. Participants included institutions from Melbourne to Mexico City, showcasing a highly heterogeneous grid environment using various machines and operating systems. The N-Queens Challenge resulted in remarkable achievements, with UChile securing first prize by computing 800 billion solutions in under an hour. This event highlighted collaboration and advancements in grid computing across the globe.
