Laboratory Rules & Safety • Bring your laboratory manual every week • Attendance is very important! • Lab is practical hands-on working knowledge • You will not learn the material otherwise! • You need to put in some effort to pass this class! • Be on time! • No cell phone/pager/text messaging • Report to me immediately if you get hurt
To Succeed in This Lab • Listen carefully to the instructor • Attend all the required lab sessions • Take pictures of the models and color print them • Buy some transparencies, put on the pictures, label/erase • Work in groups • Work on your spelling • Do your lab reports • Copying is a learning tool • Lab reports are powerful means to earn you easy points • Turn in your lab reports on time • Do not do your lab reports in the lab • Utilize the lab time to look at the models • Come to the open lab: Fridays 10am-12pm • Utilize Hoag Multimedia Lab for extra-credit exercises • Supports the activity you have done this week in the lab • Each week’s activity is available for only one week
Points • Assigned laboratory reports from your laboratory manual • 13 x 10-point (total: 130pts – easy pts to obtain) • Due at the beginning of the next lab session • Score will be reduced if >10 min late • No credit if received more than a week after the due date • Laboratory practical exams • 3 x100-point (total: 300pts) • Each exam will test material covered since the previous test • Refer to the Laboratory Schedule for the dates of these exams • Can not change the date of your exam • Can NOT be made up for any reason
Laboratory Session Plan • Duration: Three hours and 10min • A short presentation to introduce the lab work for that day • Students start working in groups • Please ask questions if unclear
Using Lab Manual • 13 exercises, one for each week • 13 lab reports, one for each week • How to fill out your lab report • Write down your name and your lab time/day • Refer to each exercise to fill out the material on corresponding question on the lab report • Everything in the lab manual is testable • Bold print terms are important!
