  2. Gaps • Random Regression / ANCOVA • Inferences – Needs more detail on the types of inferences. • Matrices – Setting up a matrix • BLUP • Best Linear Unbiased Predictor • Differences between BLUP and selection index (SI).

  3. Gaps (cont.) • Reorder sections 2.1 and 2.2 • Basic application tools of statistical modelling – principles of what they are dealing with. • References to books in each of the sections. • Procedure for mean comparisons – more details • Nonparametric alternatives for parametric options.

Gaps (cont.) • Model setting • Criteria for a good model should be before writing a statistical model. • Information on types of non-linear models should be included. • Analysis of repeated measurements should be discussed in more detail. • Other models –basic descriptions and references are needed. • Spell check through the material.

Uses in Teaching and Research • Supplementary resource • Important to have links between the case study and the study guide whenever appropriate. • Research users – essential to have a detailed guide to statistical modelling with good references. • Model statements should also have links to a reference.

  6. Uses in Teaching and Research (cont.) • There should be a link to ILRI “Small ruminant production techniques “ booklet (Habib Ibrahim, 1998).

  7. How useful? • Supplementary material for research and training, but not stand alone. Good references are essential.
