  5. Development, maintenance and promulgation of standards • Classifications, incl. ISIC and CPC • SNA • Census manuals • Current projects: Manual for household surveys in developing countries, Manual for poverty statistics • Handbook of Statistical Organization

  6. Good practices in official statistics • Website with 350+ documents from about 50 countries • Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics were adopted by the Statistical Commission in 1994 • Global review of the implementation of the Fundamental Principles; report to SC in 2004

  7. Coordination of international statistics • Statistical Commission: • Oldest functional commission of ECOSOC • 24 members, observers, international organizations, annual meetings • Coordination Committee for Statistical Activities (CCSA): all international organizations, annual meetings

  8. Technical cooperation • Regular program: • 2 interregional advisers • 5-7 workshops per year, including UNDP workshops on national MDG reporting • Development Accounts

  9. Development Accounts • Caricom • ASEAN • ESCWA • planned: ECOWAS (2004-2006)

  10. ECOWAS Development Account • 5-6 workshops and seminars, including 2 for Chief Statisticians on statistical management issues and user-producer relations • Equipment • Study tours • Local assistance at ECOWAS
