  6. R un-on's and Fragments (Middle Colonies) Which included: New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. (New England Colonies) Religious freedom was granted in these colonies and a place to escape religious persecution. (New England Colonies) The climate is perfect for farming, cold winters, hot summers.

  7. R un-on's and Fragments (Middle Colonies) One job opportunity was farming and in the middle colonies the most commonly grown crops were corn and wheat, thus making the middle colonies, the bread colonies. (Southern Colonies) I would live in the south also because of the tobacco industry. The one thing that was named by some, the golden crop. (Middle Colonies) For instance, parts for trade, the Atlantic coast for fishing, fur-trapping, lumber trade.

  8. “I” – is outta there! Change your pronouns to 3rd person point of view- us, we, and I are not used in formal, high-stakes writing Let’s look at a few samples…

  9. “I” – is outta there! (Southern colonies) Also, the southern colonies have long growing seasons and short mild winters. That allows you to farm more than you could in any other section of the colonies. (New English colonies) Out of the three sections of thirteen colonies I would choose to live in the New England colonies.

  10. “I” – is outta there! (New England colonies) Because of this I would honestly say that it would be the best place to live in the Americas. (Middle colonies) New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania have all the economic needs I feel I would need to help me survive and prosper as a settler.

  11. C – losing sentence is presentOften, closing statements are the thesis statements for an introductory paragraph- It can be hard to sum up AND be original in a closing sentence Let’s look at a few samples of strong closings…

  12. C – losing Sentence is Present (Middle Colonies) For these reasons the Middle Colonies were the best place to live. (New England Colonies) New England Colonies are a prospering and beneficial place to live and start a new life in the Americas.

  13. C – losing Sentence is Present (New England Colonies) There are many more reasons that the New England colonies were a wonderful place to live; however, the diversity was and still is a very major reason. (Middle Colonies) Therefore, the Middle colonies are the most beneficial of the colonies to live in. (New England Colonies) Those are two good reasons why living in the New England colonies were the most beneficial.

  14. S – ingular vs. Plural Your pronouns and articles MUST match your subjects.- One = is, was- More than one = are, were Let’s look at a few samples…

  15. S – ingular vs. Plural (Middle Colonies) As each had many benefits, I believe the middle colonies was the most beneficial place to live…also there was several economic options to take part in. (New England) The New England colonies is the most beneficial area to live in the thirteen colonies.

  16. S – ingular vs. Plural (New England Colonies) The New England colonies, containing Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire is the best choice to live in because they have religious freedom. (New England Colonies) The New England colonies was a beneficial place to live because it enforced education for children, boys, and girls. It was also economically beneficial because of its large farms, trading, and shipping businesses that prospered in this area.

  18. S – tate and Support (Middle Colonies) The colonies also had a legislative form of government, which means the people were elected. This made it fair for all of the colonists living there. (Southern Colonies) Religious freedom is available in South Carolina and Georgia for all who want to worship their own God. (Middle Colonies) The economic situation was also more diverse. The colonists could be part of the lumber business, shipping business, agriculture business, and tradesmen.

  19. S – tate and Support (New England Colonies) Another reason why the New England colonies were a great place to live is because of its religious freedom which allowed a diverse group of people to understand one another despite their beliefs. (Southern Colonies) Also, not having to deal with the long, cold winters like those in New England would be a plus. Although the summers are very hot and humid, the farming season is much longer, therefore I would earn more money.
