Hogwarts - A Mysterious School of Magic

2. Hogwarts is a very old English school of magic.The castle goes back more than a thousand years ago but still every year hundreds of students come here to study to be magicians. The age of student is from 11 to 17-18 years old. Everything began with the letter written with emerald ink in an envelope which delivered the post owl.Then if you go to Scotland you can find this mysterious school. The story tells that Hogwarts was founded by Godrick Griffindor, Salazar SlizerineRowena Cogtewran, and Helga Puffendythe most powerful magicians of that time. Each of them headed their own faculty.

3. The school is located in an old 8-storey castle in Scotland. On the territory of the school , besides the castle, there is also a mountain lake, a huge forest, called prohibited because of the dangerous creatures, giant spiders and centaurs. There is also a green house and a cemetery. The castle is surrounded by the mountains.

4. You can reach the school by flying the broom or using the flying powder. Harry Potter also comes to school using the Portal. • To get to the school from the station the junior students cross the lake on small boats which is the tradition at Hogwarts, but the senior students go to school in cabs driven by Festrals. On the columns there are statues of winged boars because the name of the school is translated as “The Valley of Boars.”

The nearest settlement is a small village – Hogsmead , not the only one in England where just wizards live.Hogsmead not only the name of the village but also the railway station where “Hogwarts Express” arrives. On the map which Joanne Rowling drew for her books, the station was to the south-east but the village was to the north-west

8. The school is bewitched and looks like ruins with the board:” Keep out”. Electric and electronic equipment doesn’t work because of the over powerful magic.

9. At Hogwarts there are about 15 teachers who are called professors. Each professor specializes in only one subject. Besides there is also a nurse, a superintendent, a librarian, and a forester. About a hundred home elfs work in the kitchen and keep the house clean.

10. All the subjects learned at school are connected with magic with exception of astronomy. No such subject are taught at the usual school but still there are some similar subjects (potion making instead of chemistry, history of the magic instead of history, numerology instead of mathematics, herbology instead of biology).

11. There are seven compulsory subjects from the first to the fifth courses: potion making, the history of magic, transfiguration, spells, astronomy, herbology and protection from dark forces.
