  1. WIPO-IFIA INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ONTHE COMMERCIALIZATION OF INVENTIONSIN THE GLOBAL MARKET organized bythe World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) andthe International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) in cooperation withthe Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) andthe Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) Seoul, December 4 to 7, 2002 PRESENTATION ON PORTABLE FLUORESCENT LIGHTING FOR THE DIGITAL ERA Document presented by Mr. Alexander-Katz Kauffmann, Director General, Teletec of Mexico, Mexico City

  2. PORTABLE FLUORESCENT LIGHTING FOR THE DIGITAL ERA - Patent No. 6164801

  3. INTRODUCTION 1.- PORTABLE FLUORESCENT LIGHTING SYSTEM The present invention relates generally to lighting structures, and more particularly to a portable lighting case suitable for use in the fields of advertising, photography, television and motion pictures. 2.- DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART Proper lighting is of great importance with respect to advertising, photography, television and motion pictures. There are varieties of lighting systems designed for use in connection with such industries. However, most such fluorescent lighting systems are heavy, bulky and not easily transportable. Originally, film and television productions were made in studios and therefore, the weight, size and portability of lighting devices were not a concern. Recently, however, an increasing majority of films have been shot on location away from studios and, therefore, have needed lightweight, small and portable lighting systems, which are also versatile and can be easily mounted in convenient and desirable positions. Therefore, a lightweight, self-contained portable fluorescent lighting system is greatly needed.

  4. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore the aim of the present invention to provide a portable lighting case which contains all the elements necessary for setting-up a portable light. A further aim is to provide a self-contained portable fluorescent lighting system that can be stacked. Another aim is to provide a self-contained portable fluorescent lighting system that includes all accessories. Yet another aim is to provide a self-contained portable lighting system that is capable of forming an array of lights. In all of the above embodiments, the aim is to provide a self-contained portable lighting system that is lightweight and easily transportable. According to one broad aspect of the present invention, an improved self-contained portable fluorescent lighting system is provided, comprising: a first shell with an interior portion in which lights are mounted; a second shell with all accesories.

  5. WHAT IS COOL LIGHT?

  6. COOL LIGHT HAS BEEN USED IN CINEMA AND TV PRODUCTION FOR AROUND 15 YEARS. • THE FIRST PATENTS DATE FROM THE 70S AND 80S. • FLUORESCENT LIGHT IS AN ALTERNATIVE SOURCE OF LIGHT WHICH ORIGINATED IN • RELATION TO ENERGY SAVING. INDUSTRIAL USE, MORE LIGHT – LESS CONSUMPTION. • IN THE BEGINNING, LAMP AND BALAST MANUFACTURERS DID NOT FIND BUSINESS • OPPORTUNITIES IN THE DEVELOPEMENT OF FLUORESCENT PRODUCTS FOR THESE • INDUSTRIES. • COOL LIGHT AS A SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE TO PRODUCE LIGHT DOES NOT CHANGE THE BASIC • RULES OF LIGHTING. HOWEVER, SOME CONSIDERATIONS HAVE TO BE TAKEN INTO • ACCOUNT. • QUALITATIVE ADVANTAGES: TO SOFTEN SHADOWS, MINIMAL COLOR TEMPERATURE • VARIATION WHEN DIMMING, ILLUMINATION WITH COOL LIGHT IS QUICK AND EASY.

  7. IN QUANTITATIVE TERMS, LIGHTING WITH COOL LIGHT HAS NOTHING BUT • ADVANTAGES: • IRRADIATES LITTLE HEAT, A FACT THAT HAS REPERCUSSIONS IN TERMS OF AIR CONDITIONING SAVINGS • LONG LASTING LAMPS: 8,000 TO 10,000 HRS • EASY TO FIND LAMP REPLACEMENTS • OFFERS PRESENTERS A COMFORTABLE STUDIO ATMOSPHERE • LOW MAINTENANCE • SAVINGS AND RECOVERY OF THE INVESTMENT IN THE SHORT TERM

  8. WHY COOL LIGHT IN THE DIGITAL ERA? • AS LONG AS THE TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATED WITH TV AND CINEMA PRODUCTION DEVELOPS, • COOL LIGHT COMES CLOSE TO BECOMING THE BASE LIGHT PAR EXCELLENCE. • TODAY AND FOR THE FIRST TIME, LAMP MANUFACTURING COMPANIES ARE WORKING • ALONGSIDE VIDEO CAMERA MANUFACTURING COMPANIES. • IN THE INDUSTRY IT IS SAID THAT THE MIGRATION OF CINEMA TOWARD DIGITAL VIDEO IS • TAKING PLACE. THERE ARE MANY REASONS, INCLUDING TIME AND COST REDUCTION IN • PRODUCING FILMS AND COMMERCIAL ADS. • THE PHOTOGRAPHIC INDUSTRY HAS ALREADY BEGUN THE MIGRATION TOWARD DIGITAL • CAMERAS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS FIND COOL LIGHT A GOOD ALLY.

  9. HOW DO COOL LIGHT LAMPS WORK?

  10. FLUORESCENT LIGHTS FOR PRODUCTION PURPOSES CAN BE FOUND IN TWO COLOR • TEMPERATURES: 3200°K FOR INTERIOR USE (TUNGSTEN) AND 5600°K FOR EXTERIOR • USE (DAY LIGHT). • TWO KINDS OF FLUORESCENT COMPACT LIGHTS: STUDIOLINE, WHICH IS THE NEW LINE • SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR VIDEO PRODUCTION AND DULUX L, THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO • VIDEO WITH GOOD RESULTS EVEN IF LESS SATISFACTORY THAN WITH STUDIOLINE, • AND TO CINEMA WITH THE ACCURATE FILTER. • NOTE: • LIGHT INTENSITY AND COLORIMETRY MEASURES EMPLOYED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHY AND • CINEMA INDUSTRY USE CRITERIA THAT CANNOT BE ABSOLUTELY APPLIED IN THE • RELATIONSHIP EXISTING BETWEEN THE NEW STUDIOLINE LAMP AND VIDEO CAMERA CCDS.

  11. WHAT IS FLUOTEC?

  12. MEXICAN ENTERPRISE FOUNDED IN 1997 • IN 1999 FLUO-TEC CREATES AN • ALLIANCE WITH LOWEL LIGHT • MANUFACTURING, INC. NY,USA • TECHNOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTION TO LOCATION LIGHTING PRIZE – • PETITE / CASELITE, NAB 2000 • TECHNOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTION TO TV STUDIO LIGHTING, NAB 2001 • CURRENTLY USED ON FIVE CONTINENTS
