  3. What is Internet addiction? Internet addiction is being addicted to cyberspace.It’s the compulsive need to continually check social media, visit porn sites, or do online gaming.

What are the different types of Internet addiction? • Cyber-relationship addiction This involves dating sites, chatting, mobile text messaging, e-mailing, and social networking (Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). • Online gaming addiction This involves video games, gambling, and online transactions (e.g. online poker, auctions, shopping, etc.).

What are the different types of Internet addiction? • Information addiction This involves excessive web surfing and downloading (collecting large amounts of online content and information). • Online sexual activity addiction This involves cybersex and the sharing, viewing, and downloading of pornographic material.

  6. Physical symptoms Here are a few of the physical symptoms of Internet addiction: • Dry eyes; • Chronic headaches and migraines; • Neglected personal hygiene; • Irregular and unhealthy eating habits; • Insomnia or disturbed sleep patterns.

Psychological symptoms Here are a few of the psychological symptoms of Internet addiction: • Having a sense of well-being when online; • Thinking obsessively about the Internet or having preoccupations going online; • Feeling empty, depressed, anxious, or irritable when offline or unable to go online;

  8. Psychological symptoms (continued) • Having less interest in, or spending less time on, activities offline; • Having relationship problems (with boyfriend/girlfriend, family and friends); • Lying about Internet use (time spent, online activities, etc.); • Dropping marks.

  9. How to break free? • Change your routine to spend less time on the Internet.For example, if you normally go online as soon as you get up, start showering and having breakfast before going online. • Spend more time doing fun activities with your friends offline.

  10. How to break free? • For your own well-being, set a time limit when you start doing online activities. • At night, store your electronic devices outside your bedroom.

  11. Technology is fun, but you have to know how to use it wisely!
