Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) does not allow each controller to support NVMe interface modules (Dorado V3R2C10, GA on March 30, 2019 allows Dorado 5000 V3 NVMe to support up to 50 controller enclosures). • Dorado3000 V3 allows each controller to support 1 SAS interface module. • Networking • The Dorado5000 V3 SAS standard edition, Dorado6000 SAS, and Dorado18000 SAS use dual uplinks. Each pair of SAS modules provides up to two disk enclosures. • The Dorado5000/6000/18000 NVMe adopts the single-uplink networking mode. Each pair of PCIe scale-up modules provides up to two NVMe enclosures. • Dorado3000 V3 adopts the single-uplink networking mode. The Dorado3000 V3 (SAS) provides up to 100 SSDs per dual controllers, one controller enclosure (disk and controller integration), and three disk enclosures. • Dorado5000 (SAS) Enhanced edition supports up to 175 SSDs per dual controllers, one controller enclosure (disk and controller integration), and six disk enclosures. • If multiple controllers of Dorado are newly deployed, the types and quantity of front-end and back-end interface cards must be the same for two dual-controllers. • If multiple controllers of Dorado are expanded, the types and quantities of expansion interface cards must be the same per dual controllers. • If the Dorado5000/6000 is configured with more than two controllers or the Dorado18000 is configured with more than four controllers, each controller is configured with one PCIe module. Each PCIe switch module is configured with two AOC cables for interconnection between controllers.

  42. Other Precautions (4) • Cable: • By default, disk enclosures are not configured with SAS and PCIe cables. • The maximum number of expansion levels in a loop is 1. Two disk enclosures cannot be connected with each other. • Disk enclosures of Dorado18000, Dorado6000, and Dorado5000 V3 (SAS) adopt dual-uplink networks. Each disk enclosure is connected with a controller enclosure using four SAS cables. Disk enclosures of Dorado5000 V3 (SAS) Enhanced Edition and Dorado3000 V3 adopt single-uplink networks. Each disk enclosure is connected with a controller enclosure using two SAS cables. • Dorado5000 NVMe, Dorado6000 NVMe, and Dorado18000 NVMe adopt single-uplink networks. Each NVMe disk enclosure is connected with a controller enclosure using two PCIe scale-up cables. • By default, UniStar places a dual-controller (four disk enclosures) or four-controller (eight disk enclosures) storage system in the same cabinet. If they cannot be placed in the same cabinet, UniStar notifies field engineers to use proper SAS cables (5 m or 15 m) or multi-controller scale-out PCIe cables (15 m). • Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) can only be configured with 1 m PCIe cables. Dorado6000 V3 and Dorado18000 V3 can be configured with 1 m or 3 m PCIe cables. • NAS module: • V3R2C10 supports NAS modules. By default, four 600 GB 10k rpm SAS disks are used as system disks. NAS modules use data disks from the SAN part as their data disks. • It is recommended to use eight (or at least four) 3 m multi-mode DLC cables to connect the onboard SmartIO module (eight 16 Gbit/s FC ports) of each NAS module with a Dorado SAN engine. • NAS modules use direct-connection networks for scale-out expansion. Four controllers are supported. • The multi-controller expansion of a NAS module is independent of that of SAN. *Performance loss will occur in the connection of NAS modules with SANengines using four multi-mode DLC cables. *Four-controller NAS + dual-controller SAN networking is not supported.

  43. OtherPrecautions (5) • Expansion: • When expanding capacity for Dorado, you need to check the V/R/C version on the live network, and then select the corresponding version on UniStar. • C00 versions (only Dorado6000 V3 has been delivered) only support dual-controller configuration. Therefore, capacity expansion can only be done by adding disks of the same capacity (a maximum of 100 disks supported). • Dorado5000 V3 of the C01 version supports up to dual controllers. Dorado6000 supports four-controller configuration for new projects (not expansion from dual-controller to four-controller). Dorado5000 SAS/6000 support 100 SSDs per dual controllers, and Dorado5000 NVMe supports 25. • For expansion for C01, the disk type and quantity must be the same for each pair of controllers. A disk domain supports SSDs of different capacities. • From C01, expansion using SSDs larger in capacity than those on the live network is supported. The system will calculate the recommended number of SSDs automatically. • During capacity expansion, enter the number of existing SSDs on the live network in Existing SSD. The system automatically calculates the recommended number of SSDs to be expanded. • Expansion of 960 GB SSDs is supported after upgrade to the latest version (from V3R1C21 and later). Dorado5000 V3 supports dual- and four-controller configurations, and Dorado6000 V3 supports dual, four-, six-, and eight-controller configurations. • From V3R1C30, Dorado18000 V3 is supported, which supports eight-controller configuration maximum. • From V3R2C00, different disk domains support expansion with disks of different capacities. • V3R2C10 (Dorado5000 V3 SAS Enhanced Edition, Dorado6000 V3 SAS Enhanced Edition, and Dorado18000 V3 SAS) supports connection of NVMe disk enclosures to SAS SSD controller enclosures. Per pair of controllers, a maximum of 50 NVMe disks (two disk enclosures) can be expanded.
