  7. CHIEF FACTORS AFFECTING FOREST MANAGEMENT IN UTTARANCHAL • Conservation Forestry over 1000 mts. Msl. • Foothills & Tarai under production forestry • Hills under conservation forestr • Forest Fires • Resource availability for VPs./JFMCs on sustained basis. • Forest based Economic activities/Forest based industries

IMPLECATIONS • Existing forests including more than 12000 van panchayats and PAs , though acting as carbon sink but are not covered. • Density improvement if forests not covered • Farm forestry/agroforestry(Tillage/fertiliser application etc.) • Most of the orchards excluded. • Conservation approach in hills no incentive

  9. Thrust on forest based livelihood issues in Uttaranchal • use of taxus baccata leaves • use of tejpat leaves • use of seabuckthorn fruits • use of Jaitropha fruits for biodiesel

  10. Problems in calculating the base line • Research institutes should come to help especially in soil carbon analysis • There is no data available for carbon flux measurement.
